LocWorld40 Portugal is just around the corner. If you haven’t started planning your trip, fear not, we are here to help you get the most out of your LocWorld40 experience.
The easiest way to do this is with the LocWorld app. This year, LocWorld40 will be using Swapcard (mobile app) to enhance your conference experience. If you have not downloaded the app yet, do it as soon as you’ve finished reading this article - conference attendees will have received an email with a link to the app. The app is packed with features to use not only at the conference but also to use before the event to help you plan your trip.
Here are some handy things you can do with the LocWorld40 app:
1. Connect with Attendees
In the app, you can see a full list of everyone attending the conference. Use this list to plan strategic meetings, make new connections, and grow your professional network. You can request meetings with attendees by clicking on their profile – you are even given options for a meeting time slot and location.
Top Tip: Add a photo, bio, and skills to your profile, and connect it with your social media accounts so that potential connections can find you on LinkedIn.
2. Plan Your Schedule
With so many great presentations to choose from, knowing which ones to attend will take careful planning. In the app, you can browse through all presentations and topics. You can create your own personalized schedule by navigating to “Program” and selecting your preferred presentations by clicking on the calendar icon. Once you have selected your must-see presentations you can view your entire schedule by navigating to “My Visit”.
Top Tip: When planning your schedule, be sure to register for the panel: Making the Most of Machine Translation” moderated by Memsource CEO David Canek. The panelists, Britta Aagaard - Semantix, João Graça - Unbabel, Christel Weber Kristensen Gouas - Ørsted, Camille Xu - Linguitronics Co., Ltd, will be describing their approach to machine translation and provide essentials tips to help you optimize your use of machine translation. 3. Find Networking Events
The app is a great way to learn more about the different networking events taking place at the conference. Find information about the SDL sponsored opening reception and the conference dinner hosted by RWS Moravia.
You can also find all the details about the Memsource sponsored After-dinner drinks where you can enjoy a cocktail and take in gorgeous sea views at the Reverse Pool and Beach Lounge. It is open to all main conference attendees – your badge is your admission ticket. Remember to bring a business card to exchange for drink vouchers and don’t forget your dancing shoes!

4. Take Advantage of the Beautiful Location
Portugal in the summer? Yes, please! If this will be your first time in Portugal you are in for a treat. Head to the “Recreation” conversation on the app to find tips on how to spend your free time. Use this channel to find sightseeing tips and recommendations. If you have been to Estoril before, why not add your own recommendation? You can also plan a morning group jog or even yoga on the beach.
Top Tip: Don’t miss out on any fun activities! Follow the “Recreation” conversation by clicking “Join”.
5. Stay Informed
To ensure you don’t miss a beat, turn on your app push notifications to be informed about new contact requests, conversation updates, and important announcements about the event.
Top Tip: If you’re a social media aficionado you will be able to follow LocWorld40 tweets directly from the mobile app. Make sure your tweets are shown on the thread by using the official hashtag #LocWorld40.
This is set to be one of the best, but busiest LocWorld conferences yet. With so many interesting presentations to attend and so much networking to be done, staying organized is key. LocWorld’s app can help keep you on track so you really make the most of these three exciting days in Estoril.
